CDC warns about measles spike

Measles has been considered eliminated in the U.S. since 2000, but a new report from the CDC warns that the spike in cases this year poses a “renewed threat” to that status.

Behind the warning: Nearly one-third of all measles cases since 2020 occurred this year, with 83% of those being in adults and kids who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status is unknown. [NBC News]

What to know: Rates of the disease are still low for now, but the CDC is urging people to get themselves and their children vaccinated, especially if they’re traveling abroad. [USA Today]

3 QUESTIONS

…about Civil War

I talked to Yahoo Entertainment’s resident movie buff Taryn Ryder about the buzzy new film Civil War, which is now in theaters.

Lily: Tell me about the premise of Civil War. What can I expect?

Taryn: The film follows journalists in a dystopian near-future America who, amid a civil war, road trip to D.C. as rebel forces descend on the White House. I thought it was great!

Lily: Who am I going to see on-screen?

Taryn: Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura (Narcos) and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla). Dunst got husband Jesse Plemons to make a chilling cameo as well.

Lily: You spoke to the director. What’s his intention for the film?

Taryn: It’s an antiwar film without the political lecture. Alex Garland told me he wants to “create a compelling” story that promotes “conversation” in public discourse.

Take a look at the film: Watch the full trailer.
