Unvaccinated child in Detroit diagnosed with measles; community urged to monitor for symptoms
DETROIT – A 4-year-old in Detroit is now the state’s fifth case of measles since the beginning of the year.
Detroit Health Department leaders say the child wasn’t vaccinated. The family is following all isolation protocols and the good news is the little one wasn’t in school or daycare so the spread will hopefully be minimal.
The health department says there has been exposure at three places.

The timing component is an issue because the measles virus can remain in the air for two hours.
If you were there, monitor yourself for symptoms over the next 21 days. Measles is highly contagious, as 90% of those unvaccinated will get it if exposed.
Finances or lack of insurance are not impediments to getting vaccinated.
